Nursery Pics

Here are the much anticipated nursery pictures!

The walls are dark chocolate brown with bright white trim and white wood blinds and we accented with pink and green mostly.

The first 2 pictures are the curtains I made - that I love! Very unintentionally they look like two different curtains - when the blinds are open and the light is shining in, they are almost an irredescent pink/green. When there is no back-lighting, they look like I thought they would :) - mint green with tiny chocolate dots and glimpses of the candy pink lining - accented by the candy pink rick rack.

I also had my heart set on a shaggy brown rug to match the walls. Easier wanted than found, but we finally did find one that didn't cost an arm and a leg and it looks awesome. There is something very fun about having had an idea in my head of how I wanted things to look and then seeing the final product which not only looks like I wanted, but really it's even cuter than I thought it would be!

Matt did all the painting - which is never simple in an old house - and scrubbed the wood floors on his hands and knees. The night he started on the walls he had done most of the corner behind where the crib is now and he was seriously doubting my vision and color choice, but I think he would say that he also is impressed with how it turned out.
One of the other projects I did was re-covering the rocking chair that used to be Matt's grandparents. It was actually very simple after I finally found the fabric I wanted - again I had a vision of what the fabric should be like, but couldn't have described it until I saw it. Side Note: I found a great fabric store at 2nd and Water in downtown called Water Street Fabrics - I would recommend checking there if you are looking for a decor fabric.

The dresser has a fun story too. We didn't have one and I had started looking on Craig's List or thinking about creative closet storage (there are two nice sized closets in the corner that aren't in any of the pics). Through a funny miscommunication my Papa ended up bringing this dresser to Wichita from my great aunt's house (she passed away a few months ago) for my mom who thought she was getting an antique steamer trunk. Thankfully my sweet mama thought about us when she realized she wasn't getting what she thought! It is a beautiful antique and it matches the crib and rocker wonderfully. The unofficial story is that it was actually brought out on a covered wagon by some of my relatives way back in the day...

Another simple little thing I did was hot glue some extra rick rack to the lamp shade to tie that look in a little more.

I still have a couple of things that I want to do - I have some cute pink painted wood letters that spell her name and hang with white ribbons that I think will go above the changing table, and I am looking for a couple of other things for the walls - if anyone knows of a place to get reasonable large white frames, let me know. I also have a blanket that I want to get made in the fabric that actually inspired the whole look of the room and I have yet to use it anywhere! That's the very first picture on the post - I cannot figure out how to post pictures where I want them!! I don't think I am going to do anything else with the crib although maybe I will come up with some sort of cute mini-skirt for the crib.

So there you go - feel free to come by and see it!

  1. It looks awesome! I am very impressed, especially that it could be done with 2 small girls in the house! :)

  2. It is adorable Tara!!!

Did you hear we are having a girl too?? AND we are moving to KC!!!!

We have an old rocking chair like yours that could use recovering, but that is WAY out of my sewing league. If we make it to Wichita sometime between your baby and mine can I pay you to recover ours??

I keep checking your blog to see if she's come yet!! Can't wait to see your sweet 3rd!!!

  5. I'm envious of your ability to sew. If we lived in the same town again I would have you give me lessons.
