3rd Myanmar Post

What a day! We traveled forever and now we are at the World Vision office outside of Bogley. This town lost approx 150,000 people in the cyclone and is still in devastation.
We talked with people today who survived the storm. One man who lost his whole family as he climbed a tree. Also one little boy lost everyone in his family. The spoke about the relief effort and how they had to wait for the salt-soaked bodies to finally sink to the bottom of the rivers.
In addition to hearing the stories, I was able to make a Monk mad. They hosted us for dinner and had prepared quite a feast, but our stomachs wont handle things prepared in their water, so we ate as much rice as possible. You could tell they weren't happy with us, but we apologized. I told our hosts it was okay to say, "stupid americans."
We are staying on mats tonight inside mosquito nets. It will be a little different. We'll look forward to a shower back at the hotel tomorrow night. It's 95 degrees and pretty humid. I am going to try to do my laundry so I don't have to take that home. Its a unique smell in this place.
It was a good ride today for my heart. I was amazed by how much I was wanting the comfort of a hotel and we didn't know where we were going to stay. I really wrestled with my comfort. Here I am in a world of people losing family, struggling to eat, and not having shelter, and I'm worried about comfort. Sad to say...but it was the truth of my selfishness. Comfort is something we expect....interesting...
