Today was the beginning of Week 1 of Family Camp at Trail West. It is a military week, which I could go on and on about how cool it is, but to do a quick blog before we head to club here are a couple of things...
The week is donated and families apply to come. There were over 170 families that applied for less than 40 openings.
They prioritize to families who either have someone deployed or have someone who has recently returned from deployment. Then they are prioritized by size. Bigger families get placed first.
We had a training on what to expect as these families are not the typical families that come to Trail West. Poor Matt - they are getting very few laughs as these families tend to be very guarded (with good reason) and have a hard time just having fun. Many prayers have been said that kids would be able to be kids and just have fun.
Today as the girls and I watched the families come in, I couldn't contain the tears. I thought they had tried to prepare us for stoic faces and no laughter, but nobody said anything about bandages and limps. I can't even type about it now without wanting to just stop and cry.
What a Memorial Day.
Thank you dear families of TW Week 1 who are sacrificing more than I can imagine for my families safety and freedom.

ReplyDeleteTara- One of my coworkers arrived this weekend as the Kids Klub director (Rachel Herzog). She teaches kindergarten at my school. I hope y'all have an awesome month at one of my favorite places in the world.
