1. I love love love our new Dillons store (grocery store). I could walk around forever and look at things. It is a new concept that they are trying called "Marketplace". You know how Wal-Mart added groceries to their other stuff, this is a grocery store adding other stuff to their groceries. I know some people are probably annoyed because the hugeness of it really isn't handy if you are just needing to run in and grab a couple of things, but I say just go to another little grocery store for those trips.
I won't be able to do it justice, but you just have to imagine your regular old grocery store transforming into this awesome, huge store with all these fun foods that make you want to cook and try new things - maybe other people tend toward that anyway, but I am not one of them. Part of why I am inspired is not just the much larger variety, but there is a huge trend toward healthier choices - lots more produce, quite a bit more organic choices, etc.... So today I was inspired (although some might call it impulse purchasing) to buy al dente basil fettuccine, garlic basil dipping oil to go with our rosemary olive oil bread, and natural boneless skinless chicken breasts. Oh yeah and some bi-color corn on the cob. I am hoping tomorrow it will somehow magically turn into a delightful meal for my family :) One last thing that I have been enjoying is that there is a rather large area of tables and chairs and even a fireplace. I have already been there twice after my workouts to enjoy a huge bowl of fresh fruit, a gourmet muffin and some time with Jesus.
2. This is more of a random story than thought - so my children must have also been wound up by the excitement of the Marketplace also because after we came home and ate some lunch, they refused to take naps. For almost 2 hours they talked and played and pooped and peed and whatnot - everything but sleeping! So I finally went up and let them out and decided that we would just go try and be productive and run some errands. I get them all ready to go, load them up and head toward Matt's office. They were both asleep before I got to Kellogg (which is less than 5 minutes from our house). So I now have 2 sleeping kids, but they are in their carseats and none of my errands are driving ones. They are going in the store ones. Grrrr... So I slowly drove to the other side of town and talked to Stacy for a while in the parking lot before waking them up and dragging them through stores on a search for leader retreat gift bag goodies. Sheesh.
3. I also love office supply stores. I wandered the aisles of Office Max hoping to find reasons to buy fun bright colored things that would obviously make my life more organized and fun at the same time. Unfortunately I only managed to justify some small post-its for some of my sewing things.
I did get to end the day by catching up with some sweet gals from my small group last year. They are so dear and I wish we would have had more time to really be with each other, but alas life is almost running in fall gear (no typo - fall gear is a more accurate term than full gear for us!) This week is our transition week between summer and full-on school year - with the lovely trip to the lake this weekend with the YL leaders kicking off the beginning of YL and thus fall for us!
*** For those of you who really only check this to see pictures of the girls, I will post more soon, but our camera is still vacationing in Manhattan after sneaking up there in the Feather's bag after they came to visit the week before last!

Mmm...your food purchases sound good. I get like that too. I see cool foods and imagine all the wonderful meals I'm going to make with them. Usually one of those meals happens and the rest go by the wayside. It seems like forever since I've shopped at a Dillon's.
ReplyDeleteWorkouts...you need to inspire me! I put on a new pair of jeans this morning that were only in the dryer for ten minutes. They were snug! I just want to lose five pounds, but that means squeezing in walks. I can't get myself to stop eating, so exercise has got to happen. I really don't like the slowing metabolism thing.
i also love the new dillons. its yummy. but my pocketbook remains loyal to aldi. I usually end up at both stores during the week.
ReplyDeletewe're leaving this morning - praise God. I'll see ya soon. CT
Tara,
ReplyDeleteI love the sound of this store it is so cool to think Dillions is going this way and it makes me want to be in town with you just to shop. It makes me miss KS as I have not been there since Jayna's wedding. TN is nice but it is missing you and Matt and my trips to see you when I was still on staff with YL. Have a great day!!!
